| Federal agency has held many events for us citizenship for naturalization |
DALLAS — Immigration officials are looking across the nation for some new citizens
To familiarize immigrants with the naturalization
process, USCIS hosts an information session this Wednesday. This
session is kept to help non- citizen residents the perfect meaning of
naturalization. Green card holders, or legal permanent residents, can
apply to become U.S. citizens after a few years. A report is being
stated that about 8.1 million people from the country will become
citizen. Maria Elena Garcia-Upson said, “Our goal ... is to ensure that
these people are educated on what the requirements and the
responsibilities, really, of becoming a United State's citizen”.
The session agenda is-
* Agency workers will discuss requirements and steps toward citizenship
* They will review the background checks and processing times applicants face.
* The session will held mock citizenship interviews, question and answer sessions
* It will give away study aids for the new citizenship test applicants will have to take starting in October.
Budget report of this session shows the values as follows
* The cost to apply for citizenship doubled to $595, plus an $80 fingerprinting fee, two years ago.
The main aim was to generate revenue for Citizenship and Immigration
Services. At last hundreds of millions of dollars less than expected
were collected. It is being reported that due to economic slumps there
is shortfall in applications being filed to immigration. Most recently,
the average processing time for citizenship applications was 4.5
months, lower than the five- to seven-months goal the agency set when
it raised fees. Citizenship and Immigration Services also revamped the
naturalization test to emphasize understanding of American democracy
concepts rather than just memorization of historical and government
facts.
There were some other question like- What are two ways that Americans
can participate in their democracy?"' and "What does the Constitution
do?"
The agency recently held similar information events in the Houston,
Detroit, Miami and Los Angeles areas. Many other sessions are planned
for later in the week in New Orleans, Tucson, Ariz. and San Juan,
Puerto Rico, Garcia-Upson said.
